Geri & George Make Up For New Concert July 25, 2004
Permalink | Discuss

Geri Halliwell and George Michael have forgotten past differences and joined up to host a concert raising money for charity. They fell out a couple of years ago but have now put together the gig at London’s Royal Albert Hall. The former Spice Girl, patron of Breast Cancer Care, has used her showbiz connections to get other big stars to perform for free, too.

As well as George and Geri, Jamelia, Blue and Katie Meula will sing in the September 19 gig, to be broadcast by Five. The concert, sponsored by Asda, is part of the Tickled Pink campaign, which aims to help various breast cancer causes. Geri is a supporter as she once had a breast cancer scare. The campaign is a personal one for George too — he lost his beloved mother to the disease several years ago.

Geri will use the gig to unveil her new single as well as testing other new material. A pal said: "She is desperate to get back on stage."

After a long day presenting Party In The Park last Sunday, Geri is pictured here in Hyde Park with no make-up on, working up a sweat with blue trackies on with matching top and shades.

Geri is getting ready for her comeback later this year. 'Osbourne' style fly on the wall documentary 'At Home With Geri Halliwell' is due to be aired on five in September, followed by her first single since Calling in December 2001.

Geri Fluffs At PITP July 12, 2004

Poor Geri Halliwell. Channel Five may have a good case for a refund after forking out thousands on a series of intensive presenting lessons for her.

A nervous Geri fluffed her lines and made some strange comments while interviewing stars at Party In The Park.

While chatting to singer Jamelia about her love life, Geri suggested she could date N.E.R.D star "Sharrell". Embarrassed Jamelia tactfully pointed out his name is actually Pharrell Williams.

Later, when quizzing a member of Simon Webbe's new girl band, Geri asked her: "What's it like being in VS?" referring to the other band he manages. Doh!

An insider said: "Geri was a real pro. She did make mistakes but considering it was live, she held her own quite well. She'll be welcomed back next year."

Geri's day wasn't a complete disaster. Her curves drew admiring comments from Prince Charles who told her: "I'm glad to see you've got your fuller figure back."

Nervous Geri Taking Extra Lessons July 10, 2004

Nervous Geri Halliwell is having coaching sessions to help her prepare for her big telly chance tomorrow. The former Ginger Spice is all a-quiver ahead of co-presenting the Capital FM 95.8 Party In The Park with singer Duncan James of Blue. Despite her experience of pop megastardom, Geri — bless her — thinks she needs extra lessons before facing the TV cameras live on Five.

One station insider working on coverage of the Prince’s Trust event in London's Hyde Park said: "Covering something like Party In The Park is a very big job and we were delighted when we got Geri on board because she’s such a big name. We have tried to make everything as easy as possible for her but she is struggling to get to grips with it."

In contrast, I'm told Duncan is a natural. Insiders say a glittering TV career beckons for the lad when he stops singing.

Geri Angers Wimbledon Officials July 6, 2004

Despite the fractious atmosphere of her visit earlier in the week, Geri Halliwell has asked the Lawn Tennis Association whether she can have more tickets. Halliwell irritated some at the LTA when she refused to co-operate during a children's tennwis promotion, earning herself a 'Stroppy Spice' re-branding. She refused to even pick up a racket or ball, standing in the corner with a scowl.

The LTA, who were hoping to use her presence to encourage children to take up the sport, were disappointed to see her PR team preventing photographers from taking a clean shot. It was an over-reaction, one woman putting her hand over a lens as if she were shielding someone of importance, not a former Spice Girl.

Halliwell's request for more tickets shocked and amused officials at the LTA. But this is a woman whose celebrity was always sourced in shameless self- confidence. "We were told," an LTA source said, "that Geri had a lovely time and would be delighted if she could have more Centre Court tickets." They were "considering" the request.

Geri Horses Around July 1, 2004

Geri Halliwell looks hot to trot as she rides her horse in Windsor Great Park yesterday.

The singer even won the attention of a handsome stag — a wild deer.

But Geri, 31 — who had a hit with Scream If You Wanna Go Faster — looked unsure about trying a gallop. No wonder one of the Spice Girls’ songs was called Stop.
