Geri Rides Back Into Town	October 25, 2004

She's back! 'Ride It' is the first track to be taken from Geri's hugely anticipated third solo album, due for release next year. She co-wrote the track with Swedish duo Quiz and Larossi and it has been produced by pop supremo, Ian Masterson. The single, a classic dance pop track with an instantly infectious hook and typically Geri-esque lyrics, will undoubtedly re-establish Ms Halliwell firmly at the top of pop's hierarchy. The video, shot in Italy over two days, has a disco theme and sees Geri back to her curvaceous best, camping it up as only she knows how, in numerous different outfits and looks. Directed by Luca Tomassini, who has choreographed all of Geri's solo music, the video highlights that Geri is most definitely back to her sexy best and it will undoubtedly become a firm favourite with fans. Geri has been working on her new material both in the UK and the US. She returned from Los Angeles early this year to finish her new album. Says Geri, "I'm really excited about my new material. It's exhilarating to be back in the UK and promoting 'Ride It' and I've been overwhelmed by the response I’ve received so far when I've performed the track. I have to say, it's great to be home!"

Geri is taking singing lessons in a bid to boost her pop career comeback. The 32-year-old star has gone back to practising simple vocal exercises to save her singing voice after a throat operation, and no longer smokes cigarettes. She says, "I quit smoking and had nodules in my throat removed. You'll here the difference to my voice on the new album. "I've had to go back to singing lessons and doing all these vocal exercises. It's very embarrassing." The hitmaker recently announced she's following in the footsteps of Madonna and Cher, by dropping her surname to become simply Geri. Source: Contact Music

Geri Halliwell's dog has been banned from the Top of the Pops studio, according to a report in The Mirror. Halliwell, who takes her dog everywhere with her, tried to bring shih-tzu Harry into the studio, as she performed her new single Ride It for the show. However, the dog was refused entry due to health and safety reasons. A spokesman for the show explained, "It is a live show and there are lots of cameras around so you can't have a dog running everywhere." The show's bosses were also forced to ensure in advance that Geri's outfit for the show wasn't too raunchy. Source: Digital Spy

BBC bosses have cut Geri Halliwell's bottom-wiggling scenes out of her new video 'Ride It' - fearing they were too raunchy for young Top of The Pops fans. It has also insisted on vetting Geri's outfit for tonight's show, where she performs her new single Ride It. An insider said: "They basically have Geri on boob watch. "She's a lot bustier these days and they are scared she might pop out. It's like something out of the dark ages." TV executives were worried the former Spice Girl's video would be too much for Top of the Pops Saturday, which is watched by six to 12 year olds. In it Geri dresses as a policegirl and spanks a male model with a truncheon before flashing her bra. She also sticks the truncheon between the man's legs. But it was a close-up of lifting her pink dress and shaking her bum which proved too much. Geri, 32, has made the most of her fuller figure since axing severe diets and boasted recently: "I feel much more sexual." The BBC said: "TOTP Saturday will air Geri's video without a couple of unsuitable shots. "TOTP haven't discussed what Geri will wear on tonight's show."

Geri Halliwell is dropping her surname for her latest assault on the charts. The artist formerly known as Ginger Spice will ditch the not-very-catchy Halliwell to promote her new album. So from now she’s to be known as just Geri. Well, I suppose if it worked for the likes of Kylie, Cher, Madonna and, er, Elvis, there's a chance it could do the same for Geri. The singer is also now dotting the 'i' in her name with a star — presumably so we don’t forget that she is one. Geri releases comeback single 'Ride It' next month. It's a catchy disco job that I reckon will go down Halli-well in the clubs.

Geri Halliwell threw a diva tantrum after she was refused entry to an exclusive London shop. The star saw red when she was told that she would have to wait outside an antiques shop because only two shoppers are allowed to browse at any one time. A passerby says, "She looked very, very unhappy at being left outside alone." The 32-year-old wasn't prepared to be left a sitting duck for celebrity spotters and gained entry after making the shop's staff fully aware of exactly who she was. And just to make sure they weren't kidding they've updated the splash page at geri-halliwell.com! Second, there's a slew of new dates which have all been added to our upcoming events calendar. So check them out. There's so many! Finally, it appears that the lead single 'Ride It' has been pushed back a week. According to the schedule Geri is indeed performing on November 19th and the release has now been pushed back to November 22, 2004. Exciting stuff! More pain for love - split Geri as Viz movie looks set to flop . Oh how Geri Halliwell must be wishing she never signed up for the Fat Slags film debacle. First, she starts dating co-star Jerry O'Connell, only for them to split and for him to cruelly label the ex-Spice Girl a mere "tour guide". And now we hear the film, which also stars Naomi Campbell, James Dreyfus, Ralph Little and Michael Greco, is so bad that its makers won't be holding a premiere. The movie, which is based on the Viz comic strip, had been billed as the Brit comedy of the summer. But it was held up after negative test screenings and is now being quietly released on Friday, with no fanfare apart from a few TV ads. Officially, distributors Entertainment Films claimed that "none of the talent was available" for a premiere. But we hear that stars including Geri and Naomi weren't even approached about the possibility of attending. "The truth is that no one wanted to spend thousands of pounds promoting a turkey," a film insider tells us. "A London premiere costs at least £50,000-£100,000 and there was no way good money was going to be thrown after bad. "Stars such as Geri and Naomi weren't even aware it would be out this week and there are many people who are privately wishing it had never been made." The film, which stars Smack The Pony's Fiona Allen and Sandra Thompson - sister of actress Emma - as maneaters Sandra and Tracey, received a big thumbs-down from viewers at test screenings earlier this year. "The humour is very childish, with few laugh-out-loud jokes," said one unimpressed viewer. "That's fair enough but a large proportion of the people attending walked out of the preview halfway through. Not a good sign." Another said simply: "This is a terrible, terrible movie." The film was also delayed by extensive re-shoots. Even the ending was reportedly filmed again, to make it more appealing. "Hardly anyone is aware the film is coming out on Friday," the source continued. "The tactic has obviously been to get it out there and hope for the best. "Having a big premiere would not only have wasted money, it would have drawn more attention to what is, essentially, a poor movie. "Many critics haven't been made aware of the release, which again is very unusual. The whole thing just smacks of embarrassment." When we contacted Naomi's publicist he told us: "She wasn't aware the film was coming out on Friday and she wasn't approached about any premiere." A spokesperson for the film said: "Yes, Fat Slags is out on Friday and there won't be a premiere. It's an availability issue and I can't comment further." Having had no promotion of any sort (billboards, radio, magazine or tabloid) and only a very short advert late on Channel 4 (UK) the big question is, will the Fat Slags movie be a hit? Very little is known about the movie, so our guess is as good as yours! However, we do know Geri has a minor supporting role as 'Paige', a modern, trendy agent to one of the Fat Slags after they make it big in London! If you go and see the Fat Slags movie at your local cinema, why not send us a review, it can be as long or as short as you like. Obviously, with as many details about Geris role as possible!
