Ginger Is "Nervous But Ready" July 28, 2007
Permalink | Discuss (0)

Geri Halliwell, otherwise known as Ginger Spice of The Spice Girls, always knew the British girl-power group would get together again but says she never imagined how much excitement their reunion would generate.

Just weeks after announcing they were reforming seven years after they split, the mid-1990s pop sensation have had to add extra dates to their upcoming world tour to satisfy demand and may add still more as demand keeps rising.

"I always felt in my heart the reunion had to happen and it was the right thing to do," Halliwell told Reuters in an interview on Friday.

"Having said that, we haven't been together for many years, and so when we put up the availability to register to come and buy tickets, you don't know, maybe two people want to come (to see us), maybe lots."

As it turned out, 3 million people registered online to buy tickets, which promoters say suggests that up to 18 million fans are desperate to see the five women in action again.

"Amazing and outrageous and beyond what we could have imagined," said Halliwell, who was the first to leave the group back in 1998, two years before they officially split.

"Of course that is, phew, it is very affirming and lovely to have that feedback. So we have put more dates on."

They're even holding a competition for one of the extra dates -- whichever city gets the most votes from fans online, they'll play it, whether it's Anchorage, Alaska or Zagreb in Croatia. "It will be crowned Spice City," Halliwell said.

The quintet -- Posh, Ginger, Sporty, Scary and Baby -- have already added three extra concerts in Shanghai, Vancouver and San Jose, California, filling out a 14-city tour that starts in Canada on December 2 and ends on January 24, 2008 in Buenos Aires.

Since their split, after selling 55 million albums worldwide, the other Spice Girls -- Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Melanie Brown -- have all gone on to have varied lives in entertainment, as well as some of them marrying and having children.

So now, rather than the tour involving just the five girls, make-up artists and their crew -- as it more or less did a decade ago -- they'll be travelling around the world with a vast entourage of husbands, boy friends, kids and family.

"We are like the Waltons," said Halliwell, smiling.

"We are taking all seven children, one husband, a few boy friends, five grown up women and all their stuff. I think the Spice Girls, we really pride ourselves that we have always loved our families and we treat each other like family."

Halliwell said it had been no mean feat to get them all back together again but she was glad it had happened.

"I feel very optimistic and positive, the point of this is to be a very fun experience and obviously the feedback that we have had is amazing and I think that the support and the encouragement from the world is almost like helping us to make this happen."

But as for going back out on stage again, with vast stadiums full of screaming teenage, and perhaps not so teenage, fans, the prospect makes Halliwell a touch nervous.

"Until I am up on that stage I can't quite tell. I can't quite explain how it feels until you actually do it yourself. But I do feel my legs go wibbly-wobbly and my stomach does go a little.

"Having said that, I have got four other girls with me and we have always supported each other.

"That is what I have learnt in life, you don't have to do things in life alone, it is so great to be in a team, to be in a pack. I think naturally as human beings we belong in packs."

Geri Signs Away Pregnancy July 23, 2007
Permalink | Discuss (1)

Geri has signed a contract with Spice Girls reunion management stating that she will not get pregnant during the reunion. She was the only one asked to sign such a contract. The contract was supposedly presented to her due to her being "loved up" with her new boyfriend Evgeny Lebedev, and talking about how she wants a sibling for her 14 month old daughter Bluebell Madonna. She was the only one management was really worried about getting pregnant at this time. Some sources say that she was either very upset that she was the only one asked to sign such a contract, and had to be calmed down by the rest of the girls, while another source says that "Geri is happy to sign anything that backs up her commitment as, even though she wants a baby, this reunion comes first."

David Beckham: Spice Girls Are 'Too Much' July 16, 2007

David Beckham has banned the Spice Girls from staying with him and Victoria at their new Los Angeles mansion because they are "too much" when they get together, according to reports.

The footballer has re-located to America and joined soccer team LA Galaxy, while wife Victoria has recently announced a reunion tour with her former group.

But David has insisted that the rest of the Spice Girls can not stay at their new home when they are in LA because he finds them "much too much" when they are all together.

When asked if he would be having the girls around to stay, he said: "I don’t know about that. I’m sure they will all have a nice hotel somewhere.”

But he has said he is looking forward to their reunion, saying: "It’s great for them to be celebrating the success they had many years ago. I’m going to enjoy it. I know my boys are looking forward to seeing their mum on stage.

Tsar's In Her Eyes July 14, 2007

It seems that Geri Halliwell's lovelife is being Spiced up, along with her pop career.

As well as raking in millions from the Spice Girls reunion, Ginger has gone and bagged a handsome bloke who's not short of a bob or two himself.

Geri, 34, is dating sexy Russian Evgeny Lebedev, who is a regular fixture on the London social circuit and the heir to a billion-pound fortune.

The pair have been on a string of secret dates, but made their first public appearance together at The Serpentine Gallery summer party in London on Wednesday night.

And there was no mistaking that they were a couple. The smitten pair were inseparable all night. They held hands and he repeatedly played with her sexy white dress.

Then when they took to the dancefloor, he grabbed her bum and whispered in her ear: "Are you wearing a thong, darling?" Cheeky!

Our spy reveals: "They looked very much together all night and were whispering in each other's ears. Geri seemed totally besotted with him and kept touching his arm. And it looked like the feeling was very much mutual."

As they left, Geri said she was cold so Evgeny gallantly lent her his jacket. A gentleman, too. Swoon!

Evgeny is a bit of a catch for the unlucky-in-love Geri, who has been single since splitting up with Sacha Gervasi last year, with whom she has a baby daughter, Bluebell.

The 26-year-old Russian, whose dad is the academic and former KGB agent Alexander Lebedev, was recently voted the third-most eligible bachelor in Tatler. The posh mag noted, rather bizarrely, that he "entertains in a fabulous blacked-out-flat in Belgravia".

It's thought that Geri met him through Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich and his ex-wife Irina, with whom she is friendly. They have other pals in common, too.

Evgeny is mates with Sir Elton John and the Scissor Sisters after they played a gig to raise money for the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation - a charity in which he is closely involved.

But his spokeswoman wouldn't give anything away, saying: "We don't comment on his private life."

And Geri's people said she couldn't be reached for a comment. But being with him clearly brought a smile to her face at the party.

Talking about the forthcoming Spice Girls reunion, she said: "We are much better friends now... We are older and don't fight as much as we did. We are certainly better together now than before. I love it that we can do this all over again."

So after the reunion tour will Geri be Russian down the aisle?

Girls To Announce More Tour Dates July 13, 2007

The Spice Girls are planning a major announcement next week — about Brazilians.

No, the girls haven’t had a painful hot wax. They are to reveal more dates on their world tour — including Brazil.

The pressure has been on to play in South America after they announced the tour would be stopping in Buenos Aires, Argentina — Brazil’s fiercest rival.

Politicians have even debated the snub in parliament and a website has gathered tens of thousands of signatures urging the girls to dance to the sound of the samba again.

A source said: “The Spice Girls will make a big announcement next week. Everybody in the Spice camp has been bombarded by Brazilian fans demanding the band bring Girl Power to Brazil.

“Doing Buenos Aires and not Rio would be a massive faux pas. One of the dates is definitely going to be Brazil.”

More than a million fans have signed up to the official Spice Girls website to stand a chance of landing tickets to see them live on tour again.

Spice Girls In Need? July 11, 2007

The BBC today announced a new documentary on the Spice Girls - and revealed that the group could be set to record this year's Children In Need single.

Posh, Sporty, Scary, Baby and Ginger will appear and sing one of their new songs on Children In Need.

Whether they release this year's charity song is still to be decided.

The Spice Girls announced their comeback tour, for which they are reportedly pocketing £10 million each, last month.

They will play 11 concerts on six continents, kicking off in Los Angeles on December 7.

Speaking at BBC1's autumn season launch, the channel's controller Peter Fincham said: "The Spice Girls will appear and sing one of their new songs on Children In Need.

"There will be a 90-minute documentary about them. We've got full involvement from all of them.

"They are all keen to get involved with Children In Need. They are recording two new songs and one of them might be a single."

Emma Bunton, Baby Spice, recorded a Children In Need single in 2006 - a cover of Downtown.

Geri Makes An Appearance at Live Earth July 9, 2007
Permalink | Discuss (0)

Geri surprised fans this weekend by appearing at Live Earth at Wembly Stadium to introduce Duran Duran. She only appeared on stage for a brief period of time, but here's what she had to say:

"Hello. How are you? I've missed you! Hello in the back, you alright? Can you believe I'm getting back together with those girls? What am I thinking, right? *laughs* Well, I have to be honest, I hadn't thought very much about climate change at all until I became a mother. And what with this freaky weather, well I can't really ignore it, can you? No. So, I really feel that we have a responsibility for our children to make a difference and really take it seriously. But, as well as that, it's an absolute honor to be here today, and, I know this is a bit cheesy but, I tell you what I really really really want, *ooohhh*, is to introduce a legendary band. They've been going much longer than the Spice Girls, over 20 years. They have a song called "Planet Earth". You may have heard of them. It's Duran Duran.
